This Sunday is Carolina Day, an annual commemoration of the Battle of Sullivan’s Island. For the 250th anniversary this year, lots of local museums, libraries and historical groups are hosting events. SC250 has a list including many, and keep reading for more on a new State Museum exhibit with Carolina Day ties.

In honor of the 250th celebration, the State Museum is opening a new Revolutionary War exhibit today. Officials called the new exhibit one of the best the museum has built, and admission is free all day today. Even the State Museum’s iconic megalodon shark is celebrating the country’s birthday, wearing a giant tricorn hat.

Counties statewide are taking matters into their own hands when it comes to data centers and passing moratoriums after proposals at the Statehouse regulating the industry faltered. Spartanburg County, which passed a moratorium this week, already has a major data center project underway.

State Attorney General Alan Wilson took a major step toward becoming the state’s governor this week when he defeated Lt. Gov. Pam Evette in a runoff election. The two were voters’ top picks in the primary two weeks earlier, and though Evette led that time, Wilson walked away with the vote Tuesday night.
