Candidate filing for next month’s special GOP primary for the U.S. Senate begins at noon tomorrow. Two Republican congressmen have officially jumped in. U.S. Rep. Russell Fry of Horry County announced his bid this morning. U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman launched his campaign Saturday. President Donald Trump on Friday endorsed U.S. Sen. Darline Graham for the full term.
“You can’t find a funner, more loving, kind person than Bubba Cromer. Bubba, we’re going to miss you.” - House Speaker Murrell Smith, R-Sumter, on Cromer’s retirement.

Since 1998, James “Bubba” Cromer has read bills and amendments with a voice made for radio and a sense of humor. He brought moments of levity to even the most contested debates. Before becoming House reading clerk, Cromer held the distinction of being the only House member elected to the chamber through South Carolina’s petition process. He’s also an advocate for the homeless, and director of two movies. His send-off was a reunion of sorts as former House members returned to the chamber.
