More than two decades after then-Gov. Mark Sanford carried two piglets into the Statehouse to protest the state budget, the now-U.S. Senate candidate reproduced the stunt — at least, as close as he could. This time, he talked to reporters outside and brought three pigs. He carried Debt and Deficit, while using a 400-pound hog he said represented federal spending as the backdrop.

A child endangerment case in Ohio has recharged a national conversation around child marriage. In 33 states, marriage under 18 is still allowed with varying restrictions. That includes South Carolina, where 16- and 17-year-olds can wed with parental permission. Legislation to change that died with the end of session without a vote.
