So, I’ll start this week with an apology. The subject line of Friday’s newsletter should’ve read “A peek at the new BMW plant” (not peak). I noticed the error after hitting “publish,” and well, I can’t correct a newsletter after it’s sent. Yes, I messed up. I certainly didn’t mean to use the wrong spelling. If you’re among readers who caught that, thank you for being so attentive.
As this hits your inbox, the hearing in Richland County over the state GOP rule that disqualified candidates for the Aug. 11 ballot should be underway. Jessica is there.
The televised debate featuring five of the Republicans on the ballot starts at 7 p.m. The state GOP says the five on the stage met its polling criteria.

Republican hopefuls seeking the party’s nomination for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by the late Sen. Lindsey Graham made their pitch to voters Saturdays at a Lexington County high school. It was the first of three Senate Stump Stops announced by the state GOP ahead of the Aug. 11 special primary.
