Her arrival brings our newsroom back to three reporters for the first time since April. Woohoo! (But I’m still temporarily down a reporter: Skylar returns Wednesday from her vacation.)
As a heads up, I will be posting a Voter Guide soon. I worked over the weekend with the goal of getting it online this morning. But it’s taking longer than I hoped and, well, I apparently need some IT help.

Products containing a potentially dangerous kratom derivative known as concentrated 7-hydroxymitragynine, or 7-OH, commonly called “gas station heroin,” are increasingly being sold alongside traditional kratom leaf products. That’s prompting state lawmakers and federal regulators to reconsider how the substances should be regulated.
In South Carolina, legislators passed a law last year banning stores from selling kratom to anyone under 21. They declined this year to pass further restrictions. But the debate is expected to renew next year.
